Learning Skills Inventory Quiz

You don't have to have a degree or special skills to encourage learning in your home. Many of the things parents do on a regular basis are excellent learning opportunities for children at home. Finding opportunities in your local neighborhood or city to expose your children to art, culture, and music will enhance their learning skills.

  1. Do I read regularly and let my child see me reading?
  2. Do I read aloud to my child on a daily basis?
  3. Do I write regularly in a journal and encourage my child to do the same?
  4. Do I let my child see me using simple math skills, such as balancing a checkbook or paying bills?

  6. Do I talk about what I do at work so that my child is learning from my experiences?
  7. Do I create opportunities for my child to learn about science and nature?
  8. Do we visit museums, parks, or zoos together as a family?
  9. Do we take opportunities around town to take art or music classes?
  10. Do I use a computer and know how to help my child use the internet safely?
  11. Do I encourage my child to take a foreign language to develop his communication skills?
  12. Are there technical skills that friends or people in my family can help our family learn?
  13. Do I encourage my child to express him or herself through language and art?
  14. Do I talk to my child often about what he or she is learning in school?
  15. Does my family do activities to foster a love of knowledge?
