Who Supports Parents?

Below are web sites with information and resources to assist you in creating your Family Education Plan. This website is checked and updated quarterly with new information.

Utah PTA

Utah PTA web site supplies links for these programs and Commissioners: community involvement, education, family life, health, individual development, safety and welfare, student involvement, trust lands, Hope for Tomorrow and the Utah PTA Arts Education Grant. Find the name of your local PTA President and keep in touch. National PTA brochures can also be ordered or purchased through the Utah PTA Office.

The Utah Family Partnership Network helps families and schools come together for student success. Our centers contain hundreds of resources on parenting, discipline, early literacy, helping with homework, dealing with learning disabilities, understanding your child, plus educational and health information.

The National PTA is the home of the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships. This site is an excellent source for information on various topics, programs, legislative involvement, conferences and events, libraries, sharing tools, how to's for running a and/or getting involved in PTA.

Utah Family Partnership Network: Utah's Parent Information and Resource Center (UPIRC)

The Utah Family Partnership Network (UFPN) is committed to the supporting, training, and disseminating quality information to all parents, promoting quality parent involvement and quality school, family, community partnerships, both in the home and at the local school level. It is critical that all parents get the information they need to make informed decisions about their child's education and school readiness and this can only come through support for their role as parents and training and information that will keep them informed and involved.

The Utah Family Partnership Network helps families and schools come together for student success. Our centers contain hundreds of resources on parenting, discipline, early literacy, helping with homework, dealing with learning disabilities, understanding your child, plus educational and health information. State of Utah Office of Education

The State of Utah Office of Education web site contains information such as districts and schools, K-12 core curriculum, graduation requirements, rules, laws, regulations and policies, school year calendar, assessment and accountability, statewide test scores, school report cards, educational data and research, Utah educational organizations, child nutrition, life skills, career and technology, charter schools, special needs schools and resources, adult education, programs, Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP), and more.

U.S. Department of Education

Especially for Parents, provided by the U.S. Department of Education in Spanish and English, provides many good resources for parents pertaining to the role of parents in education and how laws impact the policies and regulations that affect your child. You can find out about No Child Left Behind. You can also access the "Helping Your Child Succeed" series that addresses reading, math, science, school success, homework, pre-school, responsibility, adolescence, etc.  Links to other governmental and educational service agencies are also available at this site.

The US Department of Education web site has information in Spanish and English. Links exist for parents and students, No Child Left Behind, and other government and educational service agencies. A useful link is to the "Helping Your Child" series specific to science, mathematics, reading, homework, pre-school children, succeed in school, early adolescence, responsible citizen, and history.

KUED Channel 7

In an ongoing effort to help parents become more involved in their children's education, KUED offers special programs, activities, and resources to Utah communities through Ready to Learn. Through the Ready to Learn initiative, KUED strives to increase literacy levels and promote success in school and in life for Utah's children and families - with the goal that all children enter school ready to learn.

The Utah Education Network is a consortium of public education partners, including the Utah System of Higher Education and its ten universities and colleges and Utah eLearning Connection; the Utah State Office of Education, local school districts and the Utah Electronic High School and; the state's Library system.

Utah Academic Library Consortium

The Utah Academic Library Consortium (UALC) was established in 1971 and consists of all public and private academic libraries in accredited institutions of higher education in the State of Utah. The purpose of UALC is to cooperate in continually improving the availability and delivery of library and information services to the higher education community, to the State of Utah, and to partner libraries in Nevada.

Governor's Commission on Literary

The Governor's Commission on Literacy began by Executive Order in December of 2003. The Commission's two goals are to:

1. Maximize the number of Utah's children that read at or above grade level by the end of the third grade; and to
2. Maximize the number of Utah's children that read with an adult for at least twenty minutes every day.

The official web site for the state of Utah has links to many education resources. Click first on Education and then click K - 12. Public School districts, Elementary, middle, junior and high, charter and private schools, Student assessment and accountability, achievement, core curriculum, personal, policies and rules, calendar events, Public libraries and Utah's online library (Pioneer), Colleges and Universities, Department of Health, Office of Education, Utah Arts Council, Utah Education Network are just a sample of the information available.

The Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs web site provides direction and services for Asians, Blacks, Hispanic/Latinos, and Pacific Islanders. This site also contains links to many Community Resources.

Utah Division of Indian Affairs

The Division of Indian Affairs web site contains resources specific to Native Americans such as tribal councils, newsletter, tribally/BIA schools and other contacts.

The Single Mom Foundation

The Single Mom Foundation (SMF) is committed to improving the lives of single moms and their families by helping them develop long-term self-reliance through education. SMF is giving single moms the tools to determine their interests and explore careers, select the best school or training program and understand how to pay for it with financial aid and other resources. We're also connecting single moms to available community resources to help them be successful to completion. SMF is partnering with schools across the state of Utah to advance new generations of scholars and create hope for a better future for single moms, their children and the communities in which they live.
